2017
Covered it in this column for The Intelligent Investor, saying the following about what happened in 2014:
The Australian Shareholders' Association did some analysis of last day reporting trends in 2014 which showed that 243 companies reported on the last day possible for the half year (February 29, 2014) and 261 reported on August 29, 177 of which were losses. Remarkably, there was 117 companies which managed a last day earnings release twice in 2014, with more than 80% reporting a loss both times.

From The Mayne Report email edition on March 3, 2010: "And the flow of red ink was so overwhelming last Friday, the last day of the season, that we've decided to take this chronological snapshot of the day for posterity. There were almost 200 different companies which reported losses of more than $1 million last Friday, so this will be very interesting to compare with the last day of the next profit season to be revealed in August. Click here for the list of nearly 200 $1m+ plus losses.
From The Mayne Report email edition on September 17, 2010: Our multimedia producer and researcher Shane Marden slaved away for several hours on Wednesday producing this list tracking every company which reported on Tuesday, the last day allowed for listed entities with June 30 balance dates. This is how it unfolded in reverse chronological order - click here to read full list - the raw numbers finished with 188 losses and a surprisingly high 85 profits as 273 companies reported in a single day. You would think that a company with a profit would be better organised to get its numbers out early, although maybe this just demonstrates how tough it is to get everything sorted within two months of year end. Auditors are in peak demand through the winter and you need their sign-off before going public.
2009
Tracked it twice this year when The Mayne Report still had staff.
On February 28, we just listed the 187 losses and there were 101 after 4pm.
And on August 31 it was even bigger when we listed 285 last day laggards, comprising 227 losses and 58 profits.
