Q1. Are our new leadership team of chair Tim Poole and CEO Jayne Hardlicka to prepared to finally lift the veil and disclose the true size of our gross gambling revenue, just as Star Entertainment, Tabcorp and Sky City Entertainment all do. The original sin of Endeavour was that former Woolworths CEO Brad Banducci created the impression when the demerger was announced in 2019 that gross gaming revenue from our 12,000-plus poker machines at 300-plus venues was only $700 million per year. Everyone who has followed has had to fudge the number to avoid the embarrassment of admitting the true figure is more than double that number. What is the number?
Answer: Another Endeavour chair (Tim Poole), another fudge on the company's circa $1.5 billion in gross gaming revenue from its enormous pokies empire. Just tell the truth, Tim. You're as bad as the rest of them. David Kingston told them at the meeting that he estimated the pokies are about 33% of EBIT. It's clearly a material number and should be properly disclosed, no matter how embarrassing it is. Watch video of exchange via Twitter.
Q2. Our largest shareholder and former Woolworths hotels joint venture partner, Bruce Mathieson, is currently advertising his privately owned Melbourne pokies venue, The Manningham Club, for sale via Knight Frank. Does this mean we have declined an opportunity to buy it so he's offering it to third parties? Under our arrangements with Mr Mathieson, does he have first rights when we choose to sell a gaming venue and do we have first rights if he chooses to sell one of his privately owned pokies venues?
Answer: New chair Tim Poole went high dungeon about confidentiality when I suspect there is simply no arrangement and he should have just said that. If Endeavour has any pre-emptive arrangements with its board-represented largest shareholder these would presumably, or should, have been disclosed previously. The whole point of the Endeavour demerger was to untangle and simplify the ALH Mathieson joint venture. He got 14.6% of the enlarged liquor/hotels/pokies Endeavour empire with one non-exec board seat. That was it. Nothing else. Watch video of exchange via Twitter.
Q3. Could Tim Poole please summarise the selection process which saw him become our chair? Who first approached him? Was a recruitment firm involved and what is his history with the Mathieson family? Did they give their blessing to the appointment and would he be here today if they objected to his appointment? In other words, did the Mathiesons have veto rights, either formally or informally, on Tim Poole's appointment as chair of the company?
Answer: was jammed at other meetings so will need to wait for the webcast.
Q4. Could Peter Hardy please comment on how he is finding life on the Endeavour board representing the Mathieson family. What are the protocols around what he can share with the Mathieson family and who does he report to? As far as he knows, are the Mathiesons intending to remain our largest shareholders in the long term? Is Peter confident that there will be no further public blow up with the Mathieson family now that he is on the board representing their interests and we have a new chair and CEO who they support?
Answer: Given the endless public fighting between pugnacious pokies billionaire Bruce Mathieson and the Endeavour board, new chair Tim Poole should have let Mathieson's latest man on the board answer this question. Instead, he just said Peter Hardy is a great director...blah blah blah. As I pointed out on Twitter, it later became apparent that Poole knew Mathieson had voted against the rem report when he made these comments. Hardy should have been put under the blowtorch at the meeting. Shouldn't he resign if his associates can't be constructive? Watch video of exchange via Twitter.
