Raised a raft of issues in Sydney and especially enjoyed attacking Alan Jones, but was written out of all the press coverage - see Crikey.

Raised some issues in Sydney but didn't land a major blow - see package of 3 stories which Crikey ran the following day.

Was in Sydney for the meeting and grilled director Anne Keating - see Crikey story. Biggest protest 12.3% against remuneration report.

Macquarie Bank AGM July 20, 2006
Failed in board tilt but polled quite well with support from 15.53% of voted stock - see package of highlights. They even put out a correction to the ASX after at first saying all 8 resolutions had been passed.

Plenty of lively debate about pay, defamation, asset sales and the like - see package of highlights. They copped a 21.44% remuneration protest vote after Risk Metrics recommended against and this led to a switch of short term bonuses from cash to equity, which quietened the horse for many years.

Check out the package of highlights including working audio files, plus this Crikey preview and post-match report. It was the first time they held it in Melbourne but still copped a Jack Tilburn spray as can be heard in this video we made at the time. Nicholas Moore did okay at this AGM as CEO.

See scheme book for take private proposal at $3.40 per share at Sydney's Sheraton on the Park. Managed to keep the debate going for about 20 minutes - see Mayne Report email edition at the time. It was comfortably approved.

Macquarie Group AGM July 25, 2013
Was running the ASA's monitoring operations and personally monitoring Macquarie producing this detailed voting intentions report ahead of the AGM at the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne. ASA recommended against the re-election of Michael Hawker but there were no material protest votes. Their archive of webcasts only go back as far as 2014 which is excellent but don't have access to this one.

Was a Melbourne meeting at The Sofitel which attended - see notice of meeting. Watch webcast of 112 minute meeting. There were no material protest votes. Don't appear to have written it up as The Mayne Report was offline at the time and there was no Crikey story. Lazy effort, Stephen!

Macquarie Group: July 25, 2019 (Sydney)
Attended the 2.5 hour AGM in Sydney which celebrated Macquarie's 50th birthday. Watch webcast. Was there with a crew from The Alliance for Gambling Reform. The meeting report led this Intelligent Investor column at the time. It was the first time Macquarie adopted their new model of abandoning the agenda and having refreshments straight after the formal addresses. There were no material protest votes.

Was a 10.30am hybrid with physical component at the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne. See notice of meeting. See full exchange over 13 questions lodged across 3 different platforms. No protest votes of note. Was the first year applied some pressure on long time auditor PwC. See Crikey report focusing on Glenn Stevens at his first AGM in the chair.

10.30am hybrid with the with physical component at Sydney Sofitel. See summary of 5 questions asked, archive of webcast, notice of meeting and voting results showing a 19.3% against the rem report. The Australian had the best local coverage and The Guardian did a follow-up to their earlier Thames Water coverage. The PwC scandal had broken by this point so asked a question about their long tenure as Macquarie's auditor for the second straight year.

10.30am hybrid in Sydney see notice of meeting. See text of 6 questions asked and this Intelligent Investor wrap. No material protest votes at the 3 hour meeting. Was the third straight year put pressure on PwC's long tenure as auditor and this time they'd changed the policy to have a tender every 10 years starting no later than 2026.

Macquarie Group (MQG) AGM: July 24, 2025
10.30am hybrid at their new Sydney HQ on July 24, 2025 and via the Lumi platform, which is a bid odd when Link/MUFG is the share registry provider. Copped their first ever shareholder resolution on climate issues, which received 35% support. See notice of meeting. See text of 3 written questions lodged and voting result showing a first ever 25.4% remuneration strike which generated a truck load of negative publicity. It was Ownership Matters and Glass Lewis which recommended against. Encouraged audit committee chair Michelle Hinchcliffe not to have her vote stripped when determining the audit tender.
