Subject: Belated NACC submission
Hello, I spoke to my local member Keith Wolahan, who is on this inquiry, earlier this week about doing a submission to the NACC inquiry but might have missed the 5pm deadline. It's a one point submission so I hope it can be accepted by sending this email. The submission is simply that "Corruption" should not be in the name of the new integrity body. A better name would be "The National Integrity Commission" of the NTIC.
As a journalist of 30 plus years, I know full well how the media can beat up any complaint to an integrity body into a "corruption scandal". As a local government councillor in Victoria, over ten years I've had multiple baseless complaints made to the Local Government Inspectorate in Victoria, which all came to nothing. Political opponents and constituents will try to weaponise the simple making of a complaint so it would be far better to have it dealt with by an "integrity" body rather than a "corruption" body.
Corruption is just too loaded a word to be in the name, in my view, and I would appreciate if the name could be changed.
I would be happy to appear online and speak to this proposition if required.

May 2016: produced this 3000 word submission for 2016-17 City of Manningham budget when running as an independent against Kevin Andrews in the Federal seat of Menzies.
May 2012: did a confidential 6 page submission to the NSW inquiry into Crown Resorts buying up to 20% of rival Echo Entertainment, operator of Sydney's Star Casino.
May 2010: detailed submission to Councillor Conduct Panel setting out concerns about then deputy mayor Cr Fred Chuah and his role in securing state government planning approval to triple the size of the nursing home he chaired in the Green Wedge, where nursing homes are a prohibited use.
