Q1. It was a shame not to have the proxies disclosed earlier with the formal addresses like many other companies now do to facilitate a more informally AGM debate. Also, when disclosing the outcome of voting on all resolutions today, could you please advise the ASX how many shareholders voted for and against each item, similar to what happens with a scheme of arrangement? This will provide a better gauge of retail shareholder sentiment on all resolutions and insight into the chronically low retail shareholder participation rate which at the recent Qantas AGM fell below 1%. Others have already blazed the trail as this was a voluntary disclosure initiative adopted by the likes of Qantas, ASX, Metcash, AUI, Webjet, Suncorp, Tabcorp, Stockland and Myer in recent years. Even your own share registry provider Computershare has done this at its 2024 and 2025 AGMs. You've got the data, so why not let the sun shine in?
Answer: The question wrangler cut this in half and the chair said they'd look at it but then didn't deliver the head count data in these poll results. Watch video of exchange via Twitter.
Q2. After the Queensland Government introduced a progressive new coal royalties regime 3 years ago which peaks at 40% when the coal price tops $US300, they pocketed more than $10 billion from the coal industry in the first full year of the new regime. Meanwhile in WA, the gold industry is enjoying boom times and there are no signs of any changes to the ridiculously low 2.5% gold royalty rate, after the first $12 million in gold sales at each WA mine, which are royalty free. The 2025-26 WA budget is forecasting $918 million in gold royalties this financial year and on the lithium front they are budgeting to receive $286m this financial year, rising to $359m in 2026-27. How does the WA lithium royalty regime work and have we lobbied to be given a better deal, just like the gold industry?
Answer: A shame this royalties question wasn't read in full but CEO Ivan Vella said he was very happy with the level of support the lithium industry is receiving from the WA government. The lithium royalty rate is around 5% which he said was better than most other jurisdictions. Watch video of exchange via Twitter.
