This list tracks Australia's oldest ASX300 directors.

Charles Goode, 87: still chairing the associated LICs AUI and DUI at the age of 87. Retired from his last big chairing role at ANZ on March 1, 2010, when he 71. Was Born on August 26, 1938.

Gerry Harvey, 86: the Harvey Norman executive chairman was born on September 18, 1939, and is showing no signs of going.

Kerry Stokes, 85: the executive chairman of Seven West Media turned 80 in September 2020, having been born in Melbourne on September 13, 1940. He bowed out as chair of the much larger Seven Group Holdings in November 2021, aged 81. Seven West Media was booted out of the ASX300 on June 20, 2020.

Ian Ferrier, 84: finally bowed out as chairman of Goodman Group shortly before his 80th birthday in late 2020, but is still trucking along on the board of Energy One. See this AFR interview.

Mark Johnson, 84: the co-founder of Macquarie and former long term chair of AGL is still plugging along as chair of Dateline Resources (DTR) which recently announced a $25m placement at 21.5c to pursue its US government-backed gold and rare earths project in California. The stock settled at 25c by September 2, giving it a post-raising market cap of $765m. He's done well as the largest shareholder with around 19% as his 293 million shares are currently worth $73 million.

Peter Farrell, 83: founder and on-going NED of Resmed. The 2006 notice of AGM said he was 64 at the time.

Jack Cowin, 83:
the billionaire is still chairing ASX-listed Dominos, even stepping up to be executive chair after losing his CEO in July 2025. He was born on July 13, 1942.

Solomon Lew, 80: the chairman of Premier Investments was born in March 22, 1945, and showing no signs of stepping down. He was expected to soon join the 4 person Myer board, although this is taking longer than expected.

John Grill, 79 or 80: the billionaire founder and non-executive chair of engineering giant Worley was born in 1945 and has been non-executive chair since 2013. His staff refuse to provide his date of birth in 1945.

Harry Boon, 79: The Lottery Corporation director was born on ????

Frank O'Halloran, 79: chairman of Steadfast and born on May 20, 1946. See question 4 from 2024 AGM.

Stephen Johns, 78: the ongoing chair of Goodman Group was disclosed as being 70 in this notice of meeting for the 2017 Brambles AGM.

Robert Kelly, 78: CEO of Steadfast. See question 4 from 2024 AGM.

Richard Court, 78 (on September 27): the former WA Liberal Premier has long worked for Kerry Stokes and currently serves on his BCI Minerals board. He has held Chairman roles of various companies over the last two decades, including GRD Minproc (taken over in 2009) and Iron Ore Holdings, which merged with BC Minerals in 2014. He turned 77 on September 27, 2024.

Linda Nicholls, 77: former chair of Australia Post. Was chair of Healthscope until first private equity take over and later chaired Japara Health. Also served on Sigma Pharmaceutical, St George Bank, Medibank Private, Pacific Brands and Fairfax Media. Last gig is coming to a close at Medibank after the November 19, AGM. Born on July 12, 1948.

Michael Chaney, 75: has recently announced he will given up the top job at Wesfarmers to former BHP chair Ken MacKenzie in October 2026 but remains chair of Northern Star. Was born on April 15, 1950.

Robert Millner, 75: is down to sitting on the board of 3 ASX300 companies (Soul Patts, Whitehaven, TPG Telecom and Aeris Resources) after the September 2025 Soul Patts merger with Brickworks and his resignation from the Tuas board in May 2025. Is also chair of BKI, an LIC which is not in any index. Was born on September 4, 1950.

Doug Flynn: chair of Next DC.

Gregory Clark, over 80: NED of NextDC. Spent many years at News Corp.

Age at exit of previous ASX300 directors

Rupert Murdoch, 92: executive chair News Corp and Fox Corp: born March 11, 1931. Finally retired as executive chair of News Corp and Fox Corp in November 2023 when he was 92, but still carries the title "chair emeritus". Is now 94.

Frank Lowy, 85: the former Westfield executive chairman was born on October 22, 1930, and decided to retire as Scentre Group chairman on his 85th birthday in 2015 and then bowed our as Westfield Corporation chairman when it was taken over by Unibail Rodamco in early 2018. He was 87 when the takeover completed and is now 94 and living in Tel Aviv. See AFR piece.

Alan Wilson, 84: the long-term executive chair of ASX-listed plumbing giant Reece finally quit as an executive director on February 28, 2025 at the age of 84. He was born on October 28, 1940.

Ian Ferrier, 79: finally bowed out as chairman of Goodman Group shortly before his 80th birthday in late 2020, but was still trucking along on another board in 2024. See this AFR interview.

Richard Longes, 79: was on the Lend Lease board for 19 years until 2005. Was chair of Liberty Financial when it floated and finally retired chair in October 2024 at the age of 79.

Ron Pitcher, 79: left his executive role at Pitcher Partners in around 2000 and joined the Reece board in 2003, immediately becoming chair of the audit committee. Pitchers were the long term auditor of Reece. Ron retired from the board on October 25, 2018 after 15 years, aged 79.

Paul Ramsay: 78 when he died in office on May 1, 2014.

John Wilson: 78: oldest of the 3 Reece brothers who was replaced by his son Bruce Wilson on September 9, 2016, when he was 78. He was born on December 21, 1937 and is now 87.

James Graham, 77: the Coles chair was born on April 6, 1948. Served 20 years on the Wesfarmers board before taking the Coles chairing gig when it was demerged in 2018. He was replaced by Peter Allen in May 2025.

Ken Cowley, 77: News Corp, 32 years: non-executive director since 1996 and before that executive director since 1979. Finally retired in 2011. Was born on November 17, 1934.

Elizabeth Alexander, 77: the first female PWC partner in Australia was a long-term chair of CSL and a former director of Amcor and Boral, where she chaired the audit committee. Chaired Medibank Private until October 1, 2020, when she was 77. Also served on Dexus funds management boards and is a past President of the AICD after defeating fellow Boral director Ken Moss in a contested ballot.

Bruce Teele, 76: born on August 19 1937 and retired as AFIC chairman in October 2013 at the age of 76.

David Crawford, 75: final board exit was South32 in November 2019. He was born on January 17, 1944 and passed on December 5, 2024.

Brian Long, 74: the former chair of Network Ten and head of EY in Australia finally exited his last board aged 74 when he retired from the Brambles board after the 2020 AGM. Also served on the CBA board until 2019.
