Summary of ASX monthly data releases

The ASX releases monthly statistics of market activity and after 21 consecutive monthly reductions in the number of listed entities, we finally managed a positive month in November 2024 with 8 new listings and only 5 delistings. After reaching 2294 on January 31, 2023, the numbers dropped by 176 or 7.67% to 2,118 on October 31, 2024, before adding a net 3 listings in November 2024. August is always the biggest monthly reduction (see 10 years of data below) and the loss of a net 28 listings in August 2024 was the biggest monthly net reduction in a decade.

November 2024: at last, a positive month after 21 straight months of declines with 8 new listings and only 5 delistings in November, lifting the overall numbers to 2121.

October 2024: another drop in listings to 2,118 after 13 delistings and just 7 new listings with $3.1b in new capital raisings and $6.68b in capital reductions from takeovers.

September 2024: the second smallest possible drop of 2 after 6 delistings which were offset by 4 new listings. This reduced total listed entities to 2124, a fall of 193 or 8.34% from the recent peak of 2,317 in July 2022. There was a $5.47 billion net expansion of listed capital as secondary raisings continues to power ahead.

August 2024: not a single new entity listed on the ASX but a hefty 28 were delisted due to takeovers, issuers not paying their annual listing fees and others just voluntarily giving up. This reduced total listed entities to 2126, a fall of 191 or 8.24% from the recent peak of 2317 in July 2022. There was a $10.8b reduction in net capital listed as the value of takeovers easily eclipsed the value of secondary capital raisings.

July 2024: the smallest possible drop of 1 to 2,154 after 12 delistings and 11 new listings for the month, the 18th straight monthly drop. There was a healthy $10.73 billion in total new capital raised, the largest monthly figure since December 2023.

June 2024: another drop in listings to 2,155 after 11 delistings and 7 new listings, the 17th straight monthly drop. There was $8.13 billion in total new capital raised.

May 2024: another drop in listings to 2,159 after 16 delistings and just 3 new listings, the 16th straight monthly drop. There was $4.6 billion in total new capital raised.

April 2024: another drop in listings to 2,172 after 12 delistings and just 5 new listings, the 15th straight monthly drop. There was $4.4 billion in total new capital raised.

March 2024: another drop in listings to 2,179 after 7 delistings and just 3 new listings, the 14th straight monthly drop. There was $5.23 billion in total new capital raised.

February 2024: another drop in listings to 2,183 after 10 delistings and only 6 new listings, the 13th straight monthly drop. There was only $2.497 billion in total new capital raised.

January 2024: another drop in listings to 2,187 after 8 delistings and only 4 new floats, the 12th straight monthly drop. There was only $1.23 billion in total new capital raised.

December 2023: only 5 new listings whilst 18 entities delisted but there was a whopping $12.62b in new capital raised.

November 2023: only 4 new listings whilst 16 entities delisted but there was a total of $3.47b in new capital raised.

October 2023: only 6 new listings whilst 9 entities delisted but there was a total of $24.16b in new capital raised.

September 2023: only 6 new listings whilst 9 entities delisted but there was a total of $7.35b in new capital raised.

August 2023: only 3 new listings whilst a whopping 29 were delisted but there was still $5 billion in new capital raised.

July 2023: only 5 new listings whilst 13 entities delisted and there was $3.1b in new capital raised.

June 2023: only 5 new listings whilst 13 entities delisted and there was $4.27b in new capital raised.

May 2023: only 2 new listings whilst 13 entities delisted and there was just $2.8b in new capital raised.

April 2023: only 1 new listing whilst 7 entities delisted and there was just $2.56b in new capital raised.

March 2023: only 2 new listings whilst 11 entities delisted and there was $5.37b in new capital raised.

February 2023: only 1 new listing whilst 6 entities delisted and there was just $1.58b in new capital raised.

January 2023: 6 new listings but only 4 entities delisted so this was the last net monthly increase in listings to 2,294. There was also $2.96b in new capital raised.

August 2022: 4 new listing and 17 delistings for a net total of 2,301.

June 2022: 9 new listings and 7 delistings as total listings hit a record 2,317.

January 2022: a hefty 15 listings and only 3 delistings to deliver a total of 2,311 listed entities after the month saw a whopping $17.4b in total capital raisings with $15.9b being initial offers.

August is the biggest month for delistings so this list looks at the August data from over the past decade

August 2024: not a single new entity listed on the ASX but a hefty 28 were delisted, reducing total listed entities to 2,126.
August 2023: only 3 new listings whilst a whopping 29 were delisted for a net reduction of 26 to a running total of 2,221.
August 2022: 4 new listing and 17 delistings for a net total of 2,301.
August 2021: 11 new listings and 18 delistings for a net reduction of 7 and running total of 2,238.
August 2020: 7 new listings and 25 delistings for a net reduction of 18 and running total of 2,167.
August 2019: 7 new listings and 27 delistings for a net reduction of 20 and a running total of 2,245.
August 2018: 9 new listings and 17 delistings for a net reduction of just 8 and running total of 2,288.
August 2017: 4 new listings and 9 delistings for a net reduction of just 5 and running total of 2,237.
August 2016: 16 new listings and 34 delistings for a net reduction of 18 and running total of 2,192.
August 2015: 9 new listings and 26 delistings for a net reduction of 17 and a running total of 2,207.
August 2014: 12 new listings but no disclosure of delistings but the running total was 2,237.
