Likely changes to Legislative Council members

This is a list of all the members of the Victorian Legislative Council (upper house) detailing their backgrounds, plus the likely changes on November 27.

1. Western Victoria - most likely to change with Nat replacing DLP

Peter Kavanagh, 51, DLP: a former teacher, lecturer and legal practitioner on the Victorian Bar.

David Koch, 61, Liberal: a former cattle farmer and involved in rural lands, he also served as a councillor for the Shire of Wannon for 7 years,
including a stint as president.

Jaala Pulford, 36, Labor: served as an organiser for the National Union of Workers, Victorian Branch.

Gayle Tierney, 36, Labor: was the state secretary for the Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union, Vehicle Division.

John Vogels, 64, Liberal: a self-employed dairy farmer since 1970, he also served as a councillor, including a stint as mayor, in the Corangamite Shire.

Despite performing well, the DLP's Peter Kavanagh is likely to lose to National David O'Brien. See the full list of candidates and group voting tickets.

2. Northern Metropolitan - possible change with Green, DLP or Stephen Mayne to replace third Labor

Greg Barber, 44, Greens: formerly with Environment Victoria, Bicycle Victoria, The Wilderness Society and The Tenants Union, he is also a former councillor with the City of Yarra including a stint as mayor.

Nazih Elasmar, 57, Labor: a former school teacher in Lebanon, he has also served as an elctorate officer and is a former mayor of Darebin council.

Matthew Guy, 36, Liberal: he was the director of research for the office of the Premier and chief-of-staff to leader of the opposition from 1999-2002.

Jenny Mikakos, 41, Labor: was a solicitor practising in revenue and commercial law with Coopers and Lybrand, Mallesons Stephen Jaques and Jerrard & Stuk.

Nathan Murphy, 33, Labor: a former electorate officer for Lindsay Tanner MP and senator Gavin Marshall. He has also been the state organiser for the ALP and community organiser, Plumbing Trades Employees Union.

All five are recontesting and only Labor's number 3, Nathan Murphy, is at risk of losing to second Green Alex Bathal, DLP candidate John Mulholland or independent Stephen Mayne. See full list of candidates.

3. Southern Metropolitan - third Liberal could defeat second Labor

Andrea Coote, 59, Liberal: formerly a ministerial adviser, executive director with the State Library Foundation, director of development Geelong Grammar School and business development manager, Buchan Communications Group.

David Davis, 48, Liberal: privately practiced as a chiropractor for 11 years.

Jennifer Huppert, 48, Labor: a former solicitor and electorate officer for Clyde Holding.

John Lenders, 52, Labor: worked on the family dairy farm and was ALP state secretary and campaign director 1994-99.

Sue Pennicuik, 53, Greens: a former officer, Australian Manufacturing Workers Union and project officer, Australian Drug Foundation.

All five are recontesting and Labor's Jennifer Huppert is in danger of losing to third Liberal Georgie Crozier. See full list of candidates and group voting tickets.

4. Eastern Metropolitan - Green could replace third Liberal or second Labor.

Bruce Atkinson, 57, Liberal: former journalist, youthworker and shopping centre manager. Was a councillor, including two stints as mayor for the City of Nunawading.

Richard Dalla-Riva, 47, Liberal: a former senior police detective with the Major Fraud Group, was also a manager for Woolworths.

Jan Kronberg, 63, Liberal: has a background in management consulting and was a marketing lecturer, Box Hill Institute from 1996-2006.

Shaun Leane, 47, Labor: a former electrician and union representative for the Electrical Trade Union.

Brian Tee, 41, Labor: a former barrister, industrial officer for the LHMU and senior adviser to attorney-general Rob Hulls.

5. Northern Victoria - Labor and Coalition at risk from Greens and Country Alliance

Candy Broad, 54, Labor: a former ministerial adviser and assistant to the national secretary, ALP from 1993-99.

Kaye Darveniza, 55, Labor: the former nurse has also been a union organiser and state secretary for HACSU.

Damian Drum, 50, Nationals: former VFL footballer and senior AFL football coach of Fremantle Football Club.

Wendy Lovell, 51, Liberal: a former newsagent proprietor.

Donna Petrovich, 47, Liberal: was a marketing executive, Central Victorian Racing Club, Hanging Rock Racing Club.

All five are recontesting and Greens could take the second Labor spot held by Kaye Darveniza whilst Country Alliance is getting preferences everywhere and could defeat third Coalition candidate Donna Petrovich. See the full list of candidates and group voting tickets.

6. South-Eastern Metropolitan - possible change with Green replacing third Labor

Gavin Jennings, 53, Labor: former ministerial adviser to Kay Setches, and former premiers John Cain, Joan Kirner. Has also been an industrial officer for the PTU, LHMU and ETU.

Inga Peulich, 54, Liberal: a former long time school teacher.

Gordon Rich-Phillips, 36, Liberal: formerly a research analyst for IBIS Business Information and manager, aviation projects Tourism Victoria.

Robert Smith, 62, Labor: served in the Royal Australian Navy from 1965-80 and as a union leader for the National Union of Workers from 1989-1998.

Adem Somyurek, 43, Labor: was an electorate officer for federal member for Holt, Anthony Byrne, and senator Jacinta Collins.

Bob Smith is shifting to Western Metropolitan and Labor's number 3, Lee Tarlamis, is unlikely to retain his seat with Colin Long from the Greens expected to get up. See the full list of candidates and group voting tickets.

7. Eastern Victoria - unlikely to change

Mr Philip Davis, 58, Liberal: a self-employed farmer, jackaroo and company director.

Mr Peter Hall, 58, Nationals: a former secondary school teacher from 1974-88.

Edward O'Donohue, 36, Liberal: a former barrister and director of a property and project management business.

Johan Scheffer, 62, Labor: has been a teacher, public servant and business management consultant.

Matt Viney, 56, Labor: is a former managing director of Viney Consulting.

All five are likely to be returned although Green Samantha Dunn could possibly replace Ed O'donohue, the third Coalition candidate, or the second Labor candidate Johan Scheffer. See the full list of candidates and group voting tickets.

8. Western Metropolitan - least likely to change

Khalil Eideh, 56, Labor: spent 19 years as the managing director of Bluestar Logistics Freight Company.

Bernie Finn, 49, Liberal: a former radio producer, announcer for 3DB and then 3AW. Has also acted as a media adviser for Chris Pearce MP.

Colleen Hartland, 51, Greens: a former community development worker, Western Region Health Centre and former councillor for Maribyrnong City Council.

Justin Madden, 50, Labor: a former AFL premiership footballer, registered architect and former president of the AFL Players Association.

Martin Pakula, 41, Labor: a trained solicitor, he has been an industrial officer, assistant state secretary, state secretary and national vice president of National Union of Workers.

Justin Madden is moving to the lower house seat of Essendon which could be in danger. He will be replaced by speaker Bob Smith who is moving from South Eastern Metropolitan where his third spot on the Labor ticket is expected to fall to the Greens.
